EIB and daa Partner on €627M Dublin Airport Sustainability Programme
The European Investment Bank (EIB) and daa have announced a major partnership to accelerate Dublin Airport’s sustainability transformation through a €627 million investment programme. This initiative will significantly cut carbon emissions, improve water efficiency, and strengthen the airport’s position as one of Europe’s leading sustainable transport hubs.
The EIB has approved a €288 million long-term loan to daa, the operator of Dublin and Cork airports, to support decarbonisation and air quality improvements. In addition, the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) granted €2.335 million to enhance the project’s environmental goals.
The investments will fund large-scale projects such as electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the airport campus and upgrades to water and wastewater treatment systems. These developments align with both EIB climate priorities and daa’s sustainability strategy, ensuring long-term operational efficiency and resilience.
“With the EIB’s backing, we’re pushing forward with key upgrades that will make a genuine difference—rolling out EV charging at scale, modernising water management, and transitioning to renewable energy sources. This is a long-term investment in a cleaner, smarter future for Dublin Airport,” daa CEO Kenny Jacobs stated.
EIB Vice President Ioannis Tsakiris said that Dublin Airport is a vital international gateway, adding that the financing demonstrates their shared commitment to greener, more efficient infrastructure and reflects how sustainable investment can drive both climate action and competitiveness.
The new partnership builds on a three-decade relationship between the EIB and daa, which has previously financed over €1 billion in airport infrastructure. The initiative underscores a united European approach to advancing decarbonised, high-performance infrastructure across Ireland and beyond.
